About the Artist

Val Johnson's art is deeply influenced by her love of painting and travel. Her solo exhibitions often draw inspiration from the people, places, and landscapes she encounters. Val believes every painting has a story to tell. She has a particular fondness for the Australian outback, which she has painted extensively, as well as her travels overseas, especially to France. Val describes herself as an intuitive painter, with a unique and passionate approach to her subjects.

Over the years, Val's style has evolved from traditional tonal realism to a more expressive and impressionistic approach, with a strong emphasis on colour. She primarily works in oils but is proficient in other mediums as well. Val is passionate about drawing and always carries a sketchbook. She is a member of various art societies, including the Canberra Urban Sketchers, Strathnairn Arts, The Artists Society of Canberra, Queanbeyan Art Society, Art in Miniature Canberra, and the Royal Art Society of NSW.
